Alaska Railroad
The small town of Whittier comes alive in the summer. The large crusie ships that carry more passengers than the whole population of Whittier can hop off their boat and take a ride on the Alaska Railroad.
The train that I was on had to wait for an oncoming train heading into town to pass. The Alaska Railroad is primarily a single track rail line.
Almost looks like a studio backdrop, but it isn't. This is the view pretty much whichever direction you turn in south central alaska.

This shot has been in the making for over a month. I have been scouting locations, checking train schedules, keeping an eye on the weather forecast, and a little luck. I was finally able to get the shot that I wanted. The snow-peaked mountains in the background. The Alaska wildflowers in the foreground. The Coastal Classic passenger train coming down the tracks. Now I just need to go back to redo the train over the bridge shot. Then I will finally be satisfied! This was shot along the Seward Highway just outside of Girdwood, Alaska
