The ghost forest of Portage. The ground along the shore of Turnagain Arm sank as much as 30 feet during the 1964 Alaska earthquake. The town of Portage and the surrounding forest was completely flooded by water. All that remains of the town of Portage are a caved in mechanics garage and groves of these dead trees. The trees remain standing because the have been preserved by the salt water that flooded the roots.
Potter Marsh can have some of the best sunrises. This particular shot was taken a year ago right around Autumn. I originally worked on this picture, but had multiple issue proccessing it. The most major issue was that the colors were way too saturated right out of the camera. So anything and evertything I did to the image on intensified the saturation issue. Fast forward to a year and some months later. I was easily able get a proccess the image.
The always quite trail that runs along Ingram creek. Starting next year the Alaska Park service will finally begin contruction on multiple bridges along Ingram Creek trail. This will turn a mile long trail into a 12 mile long trail. I'm happy that they are finally doing the work, but also sad at the same time. What is now a quite trail will soon become a busy trail.
Yesterday was a spectacular sunrise with vibrant pinks and reds. Unfortunately I missed it because I had a appointment to attend, This morning I was hoping that I would get lucky and have a repeat of yesterday. No such luck on the multicolor sunrise. Instead I was treated to fast moving clouds and wind that was blowing the water in one direction.
