Knik River reflecting one of the last Auroras of the season for Alaska

Snowdrift and the auroras Taken near Cantwell, AK on the night of 4/6/2023. Making the most of a full moon. Even though it washed out the auroras making them very hard to see at times. I used the bright night light in the sky to find interesting snowdrifts for my foreground.

This was my first time being able to capture full sky blue and purple auroras. In the past I had only been ablte to capture verty small patches mixed in with the typical green. Definitely very cool to see. This image was shot near Knik River, AK
The beginning of the solar storm on the night of April 24th. This was shot at Eklutna Tailrace, AK.
Took this shot on 3/3/2023. It is an image of a frozen Kashwitna Lake during a full moon. If you look closely, you can see Denali. It's along the horizon, directly under the brightest part of the aurora

Have I mentioned that I really like snowdrifts. Just like the auroras now two snowdrifts are the same. The patterns that the wind creates is artistic. Combine that with the moonlight and you can find some really interesting compositions.
Looking up into the sky we were surrounded by aurora activity

A cool aurora pattern filled the sky. I actually have never seen a pattern lioke this. This was taken in Turnagain Pass on 2-20-2023
The auroras swirling around behind the tress near Knik River
This photo was shot a little differently. Instead of using the wider angle 14-24mm Nikon lens, I used my more narrow 70-200mm Nikon telephoto lens. I up to now have never tried using a long range lens for northern lights for many reasons. One of those reasons being that is has a reduce viewing angle. In other words I would be able to photograph a lot less of the sky.
The snow drifts near Cantwell, Alaska look like mountains. I didn't go all the way in, but I would estimate that these snow drifts are around 20 to 30 feet tall.

I felt that including the stop sign in my last shot of the auroras, as they were starting to die down, was perfect. Even though the moon really washed out the aurora's intenstity, I was still able to make lemonade with lemons
