  • Golden path

    Golden path

The beach at Bird Point , AK glitters like it is full gold. Unfotunately it is small flecks of silica catching the sunlight just right. If you zoom in on the mud in the foregound you can see the little golden specks.

  • Stump

    Stump

I intentionally focused on the stump leaving the background out of focus. The tree stump is a focus stack of 8 images. I wanted to have the stump as well as the grass growing out of the top in focus. What drew me to this were the beautiful swirls in the the wood and how they almost mirrored the swirl pattern in the grass growing around it.

    Last Light

The last little bit of sun peeks over the mountian range. The beautiful light and the amazing patterns in the mudflats made for a perfect sunset picture. This was shot from the Glenn Alps/Flat top hillside using my 150-600mm Tamron.According to Google maps the distance is around 47 miles to the mountains

  • Seward Sunrise

    Seward Sunrise

I took the trip down to Seward, Alaska to capture the sunrise over the boat harbor. I took this same trip last year almost on the same date. My results were very similar to last years trip. Awesome.

  • Alternate Universe

    Alternate Universe

Perfect reflection of the stars above on the Knik River. Venus is shining so bright that it looks like a mini moon. The orangish glow to the left are the lights from Glenn Highway. The soft white glow behind the trees comes from the city of Wasilla.

  • Reflecting Pool

    Reflecting Pool

Got up early this morning to catch the sunrise. which is something I never do the closer we get to summer time. This show was taken at Bird Point during low tide.

  • Down in the grass

    Down in the grass

For this shot I really wanted the tall grass to take up a majority of the frame. I liked how the dead grass created leading lines to the focal point of the image, the small island of trees in the distance.

  • Glen Alps Sunset

    Glen Alps Sunset

The colors were pretty decent for sunset photos tonight. We are finally getting a break after weeks of cloudy weather in Anchorage.

  • Anchorage Alpenglow

  • Colors on the Hillside

    Colors on the Hillside

Funny story about this picture. As I rushed to get into position to capture the colors reflecting off of the snow I found a soft spot in the snow. I knew better because as I was walking I noticed that I could see a little sprig of spruce sticking out of the snow. If you didn't know that means that there is a hollow pocket of under and around what is a buried spruce tree. As I was thinking that I probably shouldn't step there I sunk up to my armpits. I'm 6'3". I didn't want to miss the shot so I took this picture while up to my armpits in snow.

  • Bird Point, AK

    Bird Point, AK

Daytime shot of Bird Point, AK right at the end of lowtide. While the stream carved mudflats can be beautiful, They can be a very dangerous place. Standing too long on the wet mud causes your feet to sink. Turnagain Arm has one of the fastest rising tides in the world. Before you would realize it, this mudflat would be covered in water.

  • Bird Point, Alaska

    Bird Point, Alaska

  • Bird Point Cove

    Bird Point Cove

On this day the tide cahnge was approximately -30 feet at low tide. At the time this picture was taken the tide was about half way out. The coastline of Alaska at low tide make for great exploring spots.
