  • Light and shadows

    Light and shadows

Surprisingly, this is actually not a black and white image. Here in Alaska, in the winter time the landscape often looks like a monochromatic photo. When the blue skies are covered with gray clouds a photo can look kind of colorless.

  • The Tailrace

    The Tailrace

    Mount Redoubt Sunset

Beautiful colorful sunset on Turnagain Arm. The active volcano, Mount Redoubt is sits on the horizon. The receding tide leaves behind a plethora of tidepools along that reflect the colors of the sunset.

  • Flat top mountain

    Flat top mountain

Probably the most hiked mountain trail in Anchorage, Alaska. Flat top mountain is a short drive from downtown Anchorage. On a cold moonlit night, there aren't too many people brave enough to hike the snowy mountain.

    Scenic Seward Highway

It's been a while since I went out shooting during the daytime. I decided to drive down Seward Highway. I didn't have a destination or composition in mind. Instread I chose to stop at almost every pull out and look for a creative compositon. This particular shot is a 15 shot panorama. It was taken just south of Girdwood, Alaska.

  • Mountain side

    Mountain side

The almost completely full harvest moon as it is about to set behind the mountain side. You can see my snow tracks in the image. What you can't see is how deep the snow is. I stand around 6 foot 3 inches. The snow in this area was came up to mid stomach on me. I was surprised that the the snow was already so deep this early in the season. To the right are the fog covered lights of Anchorage, Alaska

  • The other end

    The other end

The galactic core of the milky way has been photographed so much. I thought that I would give the tail end of the milky way a little attention. Combined with the high thin cloud cover, a dreamy effect occurs.

The winter sun is setting on the Knik River. In a few months this marsh will change. Everywhere that you see snow will become water. The dead grass will spring to life The birds and fish will return.

I went to Hatcher Pass last night to capture the Auroras. From the looks of it so did everyone else. There were easily 50 cars parked at the parking lot below. Of course the auroras didn't make an appearance.

The sky was gray all day long. Then just as the sun was getting ready to set the clouds opened up to a odd winter rainfall. Suddenly Everything had a orangish glow to it. I jumpoed into my truck and headed down the Seward Highway to see if I could find some good stormy shots. That is when I happened upon the end of the rainbow at Potter Marsh. No, I didn't find the pot of gold or a leprechaun.

  • Winter

    Winter

Who's ready for winter? Here in Anchorage the mountain tops are covered in a light dusting of snow. Sooner than later the snow will make its way down to the Anchorage bowl. I personally am not ready for winter.
