It is kind of hard to tell, but this image is 2 weeks into Spring season. While many of my friends in the lower 48(Contiguous United States) are taking pictures of flowers, here in Alaska we are still expecting snowfall this week. Here in Alaska we say that we have two seasons, Winter and Summer. We have around 7 months of winter, with snow on the ground. A really short Summer of about 3 months. The rest of the time is transition between winter and summer.
Just after sunrise at Beluga Point, Alaska. With the end of the aurora season quickly coming to an end, it's time to switch to more daytime photography. Great thing about summers in Alaska. Our golden hour can be anywhere from 2 -4 hours. Plenty of time to capture amazing Alaskan sunrises and sunsets.
This is my first attempt at using luminosity masking. I'm really excited to use luminosity mask because I feel that it will allow me to control the lights and shadows in my pictures a whole lot more. I know that there are a lot of little errors in this picture. I will keep practicing and keep improving.

It's been a while since I went out shooting during the daytime. I decided to drive down Seward Highway. I didn't have a destination or composition in mind. Instread I chose to stop at almost every pull out and look for a creative compositon. This particular shot is a 15 shot panorama. It was taken just south of Girdwood, Alaska.
The Icefield of Matanuska Glacier sits at the bottom of the perfectly lit mountains. This handheld, twelve verticle image, 121.56 megapixel panorama was at the limits of what my laptop could handle.
