The always picturesque Eklutna Tailrace at night. The Tailrace is the spill water from The Eklutna hydroelectric plant. The lights from the palnt can be seen in the distance. Not sure how the tailrace got its name.

The light and shadows just after sunrise.
Saw this spruce forest earlier in the day. Thought it would be a perfect sunset spot. A really simple scene. Just snow, spruce and sunset.I wanted to get to this spot a little earlier to capture the sun just above the trees. Just missed that shot by a few minutes. Still think that is turned out pretty good.
Moonlight shining down on a massive iceberg. The only sounds out here were the creaks and pops of the glacier in the background as it moved forward a fractions of a inch at a time.

The crescent moon and Venus were shining bright last night. I captured a quick shot while waiting for the northern lights to show. The orangie city lights of Anchorage also lit up the night sky. This was taken near Twenty-Mile River, Alaska
No northern lights. No problem. On a dark night like this I will gladly shoot the milky way. This is 4 images shot at high ISO stacked together to reduce noise. I got lucky that a meteor flashed me.

Just made it to this spot as the sun was getting ready to set. I loved the way that the clouds were blowing over Denali's peak. combined with the intense alpenglow it looked like the top of Denali was on fire.
Made another trip up to Independence Mine in Hatcher Pass. Fortunately this time the moon had not risen yet. The city lights of Palmer were the only light source. It cast an eeriy glow on the old abandoned buildings of the Historic Independence Mine.

The sunrise wasn't that amazing when I stopped at this spot. What I first noticed was the smooth flowing waves of the outgoing tide. As I was setting up my camera to get the shot I noticed the wind blown patterns in the snow looked similar to the waves. Luckily I saw this when I did. Two photographers that arrived at this spot just as I was taking this picture did not notice the patterns in the snow and stepped all over them.

Looking out over the waters of Turnagain Arm. According to my phone this spot sits at an elevation of 533 feet above sea level.
Amazing night at Knik Glacier. A big thanks to Travis Saunders for inviting me along to experience an amazing place. With the full moon there was no need for a flashlight. The iceberg in this image was as larger than a house. It was one of hundreds frozen in to the lake that sits at the base of Knik Glacier. The face of Knik Glacier is 5-6 miles wide. The glacier is around 30 miles from the face to where it originates in the Chugach mountains.
The view from my backyard was golden today. We've had 2 weeks of sub-zero temperatures. The ice crystal form a crust on everything it touches. As the sun rises around 10a.m. it lights up the frosted trees.

Yes, it was as cold as it looks in this picture. The temperatures were around -12F to -23F throughout the night. A lot of layers and handwarmers.
