Sunset over the Denali Highway
I had to climb down the steep embankement that is on the right. Then cross the spongy, wet sod that makes up the tundra. Once i got to the edge of the water a female mallard burst out of the tall grass. At the top of the steep embankement on the right is the dusty, rocky, pothole cover denali Highway.
This was taken this past Fall. I been so busy for the last few months that this image was buried and almost forgotten. This location is pretty amazing. You can't see it, but in the water are easily a hundred salmon spawning at the end of their long journey. In the trees to the right of this photo about a half dozen bald eagles are perched, waiting for a fish to catch their attention. You have to be very careful in this area around this time of the year because where there are large groups of salmon, there are bears. Fortunately/unfortunatley I did not see any on this trip.
