  • Bird Point, AK

    Bird Point, AK

One of my older pictures from Bird Point, AK. I was just a little too late to catch the beluga whales coming up for air just on the other side of the log. By the time I got my camera set up they had already swam away.

  • Lighting the way

    Lighting the way

The city lights of Anchorage, AK light the way home for travelers along the seward highway

  • Sunset over the Denali Highway

    Sunset over the Denali Highway

I had to climb down the steep embankement that is on the right. Then cross the spongy, wet sod that makes up the tundra. Once i got to the edge of the water a female mallard burst out of the tall grass. At the top of the steep embankement on the right is the dusty, rocky, pothole cover denali Highway.

  • Portage morning

    Portage morning

Almost missed the sunrise this morning in Portage, Ak. The reds and crimson color started to fade right before I arrived. Pretty good sunrise for almost missing it.

  • This guy was in my backyard this afternoon pecking at one of the dog rawhides that was left out in the yard.

  • Stumped

    Stumped

I think at one point in time there used to be a dock here at Eklutna lake. Pretty soon this scene will be ice and snow when winter arrives.

  • This really happened

    This really happened

I know that some people will think that I added too much color to the sky. i actually did not add a thing. The sky was so amazing on this morning it actually made the news. A very weird morning because everything had a rose tint to it.

  • Termination of Summer

    Termination of Summer

In Alaska we call the first snowfall that shows up in the mountains termination dust. we consider it the end of summer and the beginning of Fall. This image was shot while the family and I were at the Matsu glacier.

  • Double Sunrise

    Double Sunrise

This was taken this past Fall. I been so busy for the last few months that this image was buried and almost forgotten. This location is pretty amazing. You can't see it, but in the water are easily a hundred salmon spawning at the end of their long journey. In the trees to the right of this photo about a half dozen bald eagles are perched, waiting for a fish to catch their attention. You have to be very careful in this area around this time of the year because where there are large groups of salmon, there are bears. Fortunately/unfortunatley I did not see any on this trip.

  • The tracks

    Antler spruce

    Eye Candy

Alaska's Autumn landscape is a candy store for the senses. The smells of Autumn in the crisp cool air. The vibrant colors of the rapidly changing foilage.

  • Waiting for winter

    Waiting for winter

My boys pulled their sled out onto the yard last week after we had a little snow fall. Unfortunately there wasn't enough snow to do anything with. A couple of days later all of the snow had melted. They left the sled out waiting for the next snow fall.

  • Right of way

  • Beaver Territory

    Beaver Territory

University lake sunrise, The family of beavers that lives at the lake have been busy, The shore line all the way around the lake looks like this. In an attempt to slow them down park maintenance crews put chicken wire around the base of trees. I think the beavers are winning.

  • Grafitti sunset

    Grafitti sunset

The water cistern at Point woronzof has been covered in grafitti tags. The main culprits are graduating seniors that have made this part of their graduating bucket list. It definetely adds a little color to a dreary beach.

  • Portage Valley

    Portage Valley

This lake is on the way to Portage lake. Yes the water really is that color turqouise. This lake is great for catching pictures of bald eagles and sometimes bears. The reason being is that this is the final destination for salmon that swim upstream to spawn and then die.

  • Potter marsh sunrise

  • Other side of the tracks

    Other side of the tracks

There is a whole lot going on on the other side of the tracks. This was the end of the amazing sunrise that we had here in Anchorage on Tuesday. The dark reds gave way to brillant pinks. Then the pinks fade to what you see in this picture.
