Slow night for taking pictures. This is the best of the bunch because of the fog that decided to hang out all along Turnagain Arm

Right now my daughter is really into Laurie Berkner band, My daughters favorite song from that band is Moon, Moon, Moon. Every time she sees this picture she starts to sing, "Moon, Moon, Moon.."

Great beginning to a short night. My first stop along the Knik river on the Old Glenn highway. Even with all the obstacles I managed to get a decent shot of the northern lights. Another obstacle you don't see in this image were all of the headlights that I had to time so that they didn't mess up my shot
Pull up a stump and have a seat. Watch as the fog rolls in covering the distant mountain in a blurry blanket. Watch as the Northen lights dance along the horizon.

Another photo of Twenty mile river. The high clouds diffused the light from Anchorage and the northern lights. The milky way was peeking through the last bit of clear sky.

Just got my new Nodal Ninja panoramic tripod head today. Of course I had to take it out to try it out. I still have a few kinks to work out, but overall I think that this is going to make a excellent additon to my camera gear.
Standing on the first ice over of the year as I take photos of the cloudy sky. The northern lights and the stars hide behind the thin layers of clouds.
Forecast didn't call for a major showing of the northern lights. Luckily I was at the right place at the right time to catch the lights dancing over virgin creek in Girdwood, AK.

The view from Byron glacier road was pretty spectacular. The Northern lights to the right and the milky way to the left. In the center are the tunnel lights and Portage lake visitor center lights. At the base of the milky way are Anchorage, Alaska city lights.
Another shot of the Old Glenn bridge in Matsu, Alaska. The fish bowl effect is due to the fact that I was using a 15mm lens combined with my panoramic tripod head. Combined with the angle that I was shooting at as well gives this image a fish bowl effect.

This was taken at the end of a short night of taking northern lights photos. You can see the lights starting to fade out over the top of the mountain. the bright lights to the left are the Anchorage city lights and an oncoming car driving down the seward Highway

The beautiful view from the Old Glenn Highway bridge.
I made a quick trip down the Seward Highway to capture a few of the Geminid meteors. As expected the clouds started to roll in.
The city light of Wasilla to the far left and Palmer in center are in a luminosity battle with the northern lights coming in from the right. This shot was taken along the Knik river on the Old Glenn highway near Butte, Alaska
Trying out different techniques using different light sources, I found a pretty cool LED latern at Best Buy. It has an adjustable light in side of an opaque soft rubber cup. It works great as a light diffuser.
Watching the northern lights as the moon was setting behind my back. This was taken at Twenty mile river.
The absence of the moon makes for a very dark landscape photo. Even the northern lights dacing across the tops of the mountain couldn't light the foreground enough.
