    Bed of flowers

The view along the Seward Highway. While I was waiting for the train. I snapped a few pictures of the surrounding scenery

  • Ball and Chain

    Ball and Chain

The anchor chain at the Anchorage city docks as the sun sets on the horizon across the inlet.

  • Nature's Eye

    Nature's Eye

Sunburst sunset over Anchorage, Alaska. This was captured on the hillside of Glenn Alps.

  • Almost home

    Almost home

I gave this photo the title "Almost home" not because this is my actual home. This image gives off the feeling that a person just has to walk over the next hill to get home.

  • House on the hill

    House on the hill

The house on the hill has been restored to when people lived in it during the Independence gold mine days. It also doubles as a visitor center for the state parks and recreation Hatchers Pass area.

  • Contrast In Nature

    Contrast In Nature

The sudden change from the parched land to the green lush hills of Eklutna Lake.

  • In the Lupine

the end of my Lupine series of photos

  • Pilings from the past

    Pilings from the past

Old pilings from a trestle long since gone. This is a long exposure of Portage creek no.2 that I took while waiting for the train.

  • Follow the path

    Follow the path

Beautiful sunrise taken along the Seward Highway.

  • Down the middle

    Down the middle

Tried to get this shot as symetrical as I could. This is the end of this series of shots I hope that you have enjoyed the photos.

  • Lake Hood Sunset

    Lake Hood Sunset

Sunset at Lake Hood. This was taken around 10pm. The mountain in the distance is Mt. Susitna. Lake hood is one of the busiest float plane lakes in the world. Tonight was a quiet night due to the windy conditions. Normally there is a plane taking off or landing every couple of minutes this time of the year.

  • The light

    The light

I included this picture from my trip to Exit glacier, This was the forest that was at the base of the mountain where Exit glacier is at. This section of forest created a beautiful green canopy that filtered the light from the sun.

  • Adventures and Possibilities

    Adventures and Possibilities

Hiking at the Gold Mint trail in Hatchers pass. So many side trails. So many possibilities for new adventures.

  • Kenai Fjords Tours

    Kenai Fjords Tours

Looking out on the Seward, Alaska small boat harbor. An early morning sunrise over the row of Kenai Fjords tour boats.

  • The other side of the fence

The other side of the fence

The beautiful emerald fields of green that line the upper banks of Eklutna lake. This time of the year the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence in south central Alaska.

  • Pointing home

    Pointing home

This tree was over 50 feet long. Laying on the ground the trunk was thigh high on my 6 foot 3 inch frame. This tree was probably one of the many trees along the seward highway that found its demise during the tsunami that happened after the 1964 earthquake.

  • Alaskan Nights

    Alaskan Nights

Alaskan nights in the summer are short on the dark and heavy on the light. It's mid July and the offical sunset time is 11:20pm. Sunrise is around 4:50am.

  • Prepare for landing

    Prepare for landing

On the bluff at Point Woronzof in Anchorage, Alaska. The planes are landing at Ted Stevens airport which is right behind me.

  • Prepare to Launch

    Prepare to Launch

Took this shot as if I were about to launch off in my boat. In a few weeks this will be a very busy boat launch as the salmon start to arrive

  • Painted mountains

    Painted mountains

The last bit of setting sun painting the mountains of Glen Alps.

  • Virgin creek falls 2

    Virgin creek falls 2

Another angle of the same waterfall from today.

  • Mountain Spring

    Mountain Spring

Long exposure of upper willow creek in Hatcher's pass, Alaska. Pure mountian water. The kind that you find bottled and over priced in the grocery store.

  • Lupine View

    Lupine View

My favorite spot in the winter to take northern light photos. Twenty mile river is also a great place for wildflowers. The Lupines are in full bloom across South central Alaska

  • Sleeping Lady

    Sleeping Lady

Across the inlet stands the majestic Mount Susitna or better known as the sleeping lady

  • In the wind

    In the wind

A very windy day along the seward highway at Bird point.

  • Stormy sunset

    Stormy sunset

Went out to take stormy sunset photos. The sunset part didn't pan out like I was hoping for.

  • Portage creek No. 2

    Portage creek No. 2

Just another angle of Portage Creek no.2

  • Guarding the sun

    Guarding the sun

This is the Captain James Cook statue in West downtown Anchorage.I was lucky to get here right as the sun was in between the legs of the statue

  • Virgin creek falls

    Virgin creek falls

Went exploring in a new place today. At least new to me. Virgin creek is located in Girdwood, Alaska. It was cloudy pretty much all day today. Magically the clouds parted just long enough for me to capture a shot where the sun is shining through the top of the gorge where the waterfall comes rushing out.

  • Patches

    Patches

Very deceptive terrain. what looks like solid ground is actually very soft mud. Every year fire and rescue is called out to the mudflats around Anchorage to rescue stuck people. The danger is not the mud. The danger is that the mud holds you until the fast moving tide comes back in and drowns you.

  • Usher in the night

    Usher in the night

The colorful cloud formation lit by the setting sun. This is the a view of Resurrection Bay in Seward, Alaska

  • The end is near

    The end is near

The end of the dryness is near. The rain clouds are fast approaching. The dry lake bed will see some relief

  • Lupines

    Lupines

Getting a little closer to the lupines along Seward highway. It was pretty windy while taking these. Even at 1/2000 sec I still have some motion blur.

  • Patiently waiting

    Patiently waiting

A couple of determined salmon fishermen waiting for a bite. The Slammin Salmon Derby is currently being held.

  • Foot prints in the sand

    Foot prints in the sand

I was clearly not the first person to explore this area today. The footprints could have possibly come from a boretide surfer that didn't make it all the way to the end.

  • souvenirs

    souvenirs

Small gift shop in Whittier that has some pretty interesting souvenirs.

  • Captain James Cook

    Captain James Cook

Anchorages tribute to Captain James Cook the British explorer.

  • Untitled photo
  • Iron sunset

    Iron sunset

This was shot around Potters Marsh in Anchorage, Alaska,

  • Hatcher's Pass

    Hatcher's Pass

Went out to scout future locations today. I explored around the independence mine area of Hatcher's pass. I had to use a ND8 filter and wait for clouds to pass in front of the sun to get this shot.

  • Parched

    Parched

Eklutna lake leaves behind parched land as it recedes because of our lack of rainfall. In the distance relief is on its way with the approaching rain cloud.

  • In the trench

    In the trench

One of the run-off trenches of portage valley. when the tide rises this ditch is completely full. The silt/mud is a liquid but also a solid. You can stand on it but if you stand on it too long you will slowly sink. Once your feet sink below the surface the mud creates a vacuum around your foot that makes it VERY hard to pull your foot free.

  • Mouth of the creek

    Mouth of the creek

The mouth of Anchorage's most famous fishing spot, Ship creek. This shot was taken from the city small boat harbor around 11;00pm

  • Sand between your toes

    Sand between your toes

Sandy/mud/silt beach of south central Alaska. This was taken during sunset at Bird point.
