  • Big Dipper

    Big Dipper

This will be the one of the last images that I post from Twenty mile river for a while. Off center to the right is the constellation "Big Dipper" This constellation is the state flag of Alaska. Stars of gold on a field of blue.

  • Belly of the beast

    Belly of the beast

Shot was taken at the back of the largest ice cave at Byron glacier, The ice boulder that is in the middle of the photo is about the size of a full size SUV. The cave actually goes twice as far back, but there was a cave in that makes it hard to get there.

  • Not thinking about politicians

    Not thinking about politicians

Lately here in the United states we are being constantly bombarded by politicians just said this and politicians just did that. When I'm out shooting these amazing photos I could care less what Donald Trump has said or what crazy thing some Democrat has done. During the whole time I was shooting I was not thinking about anything politics. Maybe more people should turn off the nightly news and go outside to experience the peace of nature. wishful thinking. I know.

  • Aleyska

    Aleyska

Aleyska ski resort in Girdwood, Alaska. Took a chance even though it was raining in Girdwood. Luckily I happened to take this shot during a brief period when it wasn't raining. I think that it turned out ok.

  • Heavens above

    Heavens above

Been working on some of my oldies since I haven't been able to get out much. I took this one before I bought my D810. I've always liked this one because of the sunrays coming out of the top of the clouds. All I added to the picture was a little color and adjusted the highlights and shadows. The sunrays were not added in. This is how it really looked that day.

  • Piece of the past

    Piece of the past

Portage glacier covered in snow in the distance. A part of the glacier that has broken off and drifted across the lake.

  • Portal

    Portal

This was one of the many small exits that branched off from the main cave. Made me think of a portal

  • 24 Karat

    24 Karat

This is the last shot in the series. I was actually headed back to the car. I turned around to get one last to get one last look and saw this. I then had to scramble to get my gear set up before I missed the shot. Half a minute later it was gone.

  • Follow the tracks

    Follow the tracks

Fat tire bicycle tracks are an unusual thing to find out on the middle of a frozen Potter marsh. I can only imagine how many times they fell on the slippery ice.

  • alone

    alone

Found this Iceberg all alone on the shore of Portage lake.

  • Ice Cave

    Ice Cave

This was taken at the end of my trip to Byron Glacier. I heard a very dull poppong noise while taking this series of shots. Couldn't get the images of me in this cave if the roof collapsed. This is a 7 photo handheld panorama of the smaller ice cave. The blue light on the left is from the bigger cave shinning through the crevices.

  • Rise and Shine

    Rise and Shine

I almost missed this sunrise, I was sitting at home debating if it was going to be a good sunrise. Good thing I went. I caught the sunrise from a few different angles I liked this one the best because of the leading lines created by the wind blowing over the rocks leaving trails in the snow.

  • New Year's Eve

    New Year's Eve

The end of a very disappointing night. As you can see the northern lights are peeking out from behind the clouds. The last two days the skies have been clear during the day. As soon as nightfall the clouds move back in.

  • Golden Haze

  • Catching the light

    Catching the light

The iceberg seems to glow as it catches the light from the sunrise. There was a time not to long ago when this whole lake was filled with icebergs. Sadly the glacier has receded so much that the falling ice barely ever reaches the lake now

  • Diamond in the rough

    Diamond in the rough

Back from my Hawaiian vacation. I don't remeber Alaska being this cold and dark. To get acclimated back to Alaska weather I decided to go out to Byron Glacier and take some picutres in the ice cave. This photo was taken in one of the smaller caves. I almost had to get on my hands and knees at the entrance. Once I got inside I discovered this crystal clear football sized chunk of ice.

  • Other side of the tracks

    Other side of the tracks

Had one more that I wanted to share from Beluga Point. Waiting for the weather to break here in Anchorage so I can go out and get more amazing sunrises/sunsets

  • Sunrise after the clouds

    Sunrise after the clouds

one of the first good sunrises in weeks. We have had weird warm weather because of the big storm/ El Nino that has been hanging off the west coast

  • Sunrise

    Sunrise

Sunrise at Beluga Point. This is looking back towards the mountains away from the waters of Turnagain Arm. This will be the last picture in this series

  • Ice covered rocks

    Ice covered rocks

More of the beautiful sunrise in Portage, Alaska. This is a focus stack of 5 pictures. I like the way that the rocks are covered in layered ice. They almost look like they are shellacked.

  • Unforgettable

    Unforgettable

Alaska is an unfotgettable place. Beautiful sunrises are one of the many things that makes Alaska unforgettable. This was taken about ten minutes before the last picture that I posted. What a difference a few minutes makes.

  • Virgin Creek Fall - Winter

    Virgin Creek Fall - Winter

I took this same shot this winter when there was a lot less snow.
